What is Interest?

Interest is the cost of borrowing money or the reward for lending/saving money, expressed as a percentage of the principal over a specified time period. For borrowers, interest is an expense; for lenders and savers, it is income. Understanding how interest is calculated is fundamental to all financial decisions.
